Oldham man jailed for sexual activity with a child

Faisal Khan (18/03/2003) of the Chadderton area of Oldham, was today (Monday 26 June 2023) sentenced to four years and 10 months after being found guilty of three counts of sexual activity with a child and supplying cannabis to a 15-year-old girl.

He will also be on the sex offenders register for life and was handed an indefinite restraining order against the victim as well as a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO).

The court heard how Khan, 19-years-old at the time of the offences, had met and groomed the teenage girl, who was 14, over Snapchat between January and October 2022. He would pick the youngster up in different vehicles and engage in sexual activity.

He would then provide her with cannabis, alcohol and sometimes nitrous oxide balloons.

The victim described not knowing whether he was her boyfriend or not but that the relationship had turned from something “cute” to “sour”.

DC Natalie Wood from the Oldham Complex Safeguarding Team said: “As Khan begins his sentence, I would like to thank the victim, who has been supportive of this prosecution. She has been very brave and shown such strength for someone so young.

“Today’s sentencing doesn’t make up for what she has been through but I hope that it goes someway to help her healing process.

“We are pleased that Khan is now off the streets and cannot hurt anyone else. As a Force, we are committed to listening to everyone who reports a sexual assault case and ensure that all are investigated.

“If you or anyone you know has been subjected to sexual assault, we ask that you contact GMP via 101 or through the Live Chat function on the website www.gmp.police.uk.”

Could you spot a child who is at risk of CSE?

Spot the signs of child exploitation: Going missing for periods of time or regularly returning home late; skipping school or being disruptive in class; appearing with unexplained gifts or possessions that can’t be accounted for; experiencing health problems that may indicate a sexually transmitted infection; having mood swings and changes in temperament; using drugs and/or alcohol; displaying inappropriate sexualised behaviour, such as over-familiarity with strangers, dressing in a sexualised manner or sending sexualised images by mobile phone ("sexting"); increasing their screen time or showing unusual use of online platforms, such as websites, social media, apps or games; they may also show signs of unexplained physical harm, such as bruising and cigarette burns.

If you or someone you know has been raped or sexually assaulted, we encourage you not to suffer in silence and report it to the police, or a support agency so you can get the help and support available.
