OMRT called into action in battle to beat blaze
Eight members of Oldham Mountain Rescue Team were called out in the early hours, around 1am, on Tuesday morning to assist Greater Manchester Fire Rescue Service who were working to control a moorland fire in the Dovestones area.
The callout officer made contact and established that the team was requested to help with moving personnel / equipment and to provide local knowledge. The team made contact with the Fire Commander at the scene and provided assistance as needed.
It was still extremely warm even at that time in the morning. An Amber Weather warning is now in place from the Met Office with temperatures remaining warm and expecting to increase again into the weekend and early next week. The fire service are still investigating the cause of the fire.
The rescue team were involved for three hours.
