In the aftermath of Storm Eunice, and the heart of Storm Franklin, Oldham Mountain Rescue Team's water section were deployed on Sunday night in Didsbury alongside Bolton Mountain Rescue Team and Kinder Mountain Rescue Teams.

They were tasked with supporting Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) in case the River Mersey burst its banks due to the heavy and sustained rainfall over the weekend.

OMRT leader Rob Tortoishell said: “Fortunately, although reaching extremely high levels, the river stayed within its banks and the MR teams were not needed.

“They returned to base at 3am on Monday morning, got their kit sorted, and tried to catch a couple of hours sleep before heading to work.”

Five OMRT personnel were involved for around seven hours.
