An industrial building which is 'well past its expiry date' could be demolished and replaced with family homes.

Plans have been submitted to Oldham council to knock down units at Hadfield Works on Hadfield Street.

The buildings on the land are made up of a single storey industrial shed, with a servicing area, with various extensions.

A developer wants to build 22 three-bedroom houses on the site, which is in the Medlock Vale ward of the borough.

A design and access statement by Create It Studio Architects on behalf of the applicant states that each house would have a driveway with space to park up to two cars.

It is not made clear whether any of the houses would be affordable.

The site was formally an industrial site consisting of a large single storey industrial shed building with large parking and servicing area facing onto Hadfield Street.

The report states: “The existing building is currently vacant and well past its expiry date and unfit to be used for any commercial or industrial use.

“The proposed development will be available to the market as family houses and contribute to the council’s housing target.

“It is envisaged that the new dwellings would be of contemporary style, but using traditional materials to assimilate it within its contextual surroundings."

All the proposed buildings would be identical, and split over three levels, which would include a loft level.

A previous plan for redeveloping the Hadfield Works site with 19 houses was approved in September last year.

Consultation on the latest plans will run until July 14, with a decision to be made from September.
