A British Transport Police officer has been sacked for glassing someone while off duty.
The Manchester-based officer was dismissed following an accelerated misconduct hearing.
Police Constable Niki Minev attended his hearing held at British Transport Police headquarters following allegations of gross misconduct.
On October 8, 2022, while off duty PC Minev struck a person to the face whilst holding a glass causing serious injuries.
He was arrested and subsequently pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm at Liverpool Crown Court.
His plea was accepted by the judge with a preliminary date for sentencing set for January 15.
His hearing was held in public and chaired by Chief Constable Lucy D’Orsi. Chief Constable D’Orsi found the allegations proven and that they amounted to gross misconduct, and he was dismissed without notice.
Chief Cons Lucy D’Orsi said: “Members of the public rightly expect police officers, both on and off duty, to protect them from violent and disorderly behaviour. PC Minev did the opposite.
“His violent actions caused serious and lasting injury to his victim and have harmed public confidence in policing. There is no place in BTP for someone like that. I had no hesitation in dismissing him without notice.”
