Six stolen vehicles have been located and recovered by Oldham neighbourhood officers in the last week.

Six stolen vehicles have been located and recovered by Oldham neighbourhood officers in the last week.

The two vehicles were recovered during routine patrols in the Shaw Road area by the St James and Waterhead neighbourhood policing team.

A team of Police Constables and Police Community Support Officers were out in area and spotted the vehicles after hearing the vehicle description in a briefing at the start of their shift which showed stolen vehicles across the district that the teams need to look out for whilst on patrol, the teams also make note of any vehicles that have been reported stolen whilst on shift to also look out for.

The vehicles located have been recovered for forensic analysis and will be returned to their rightful owners.

Inspector Stuart Berry of GMP’s Oldham Neighbourhood team, said: “This is great proactive work shown by our officers, they are dedicated to keeping communities safe and are out in your neighbourhood tackling crime.

"There is an ongoing operation in Oldham to reduce vehicle crime which involves covert and high visibility patrols in hotspot areas and patrol plans to recover stolen vehicles so we can reunite them with their rightful owners.Neighbourhood officers are placed where you need them most in your community to prevent, tackle and solve crime.

"There are steps drivers can take to protect their vehicles and make it harder for opportunistic thieves. If you have a keyless entry car, please keep your keys in your property and well away from your parking space, consider purchasing a Faraday Pouch or steering wheel lock – which is proven to be a brilliant deterrent.”
