Children at a school in Glodwick have been taking part in some important life skills training.
Bikeability offer cycling training to improve confidence and increase children's awareness of safety on the roads when cycling.
Alexandra Park Junior School have offered the training to Year 4 and Year 5 for many years. This year they had the highest uptake of places, with 40 children taking part.
Year 4 children focus on essential bike handling skills, while Year 5 take their bikes out onto the road in the local community to practise more advanced skills.
Samantha Nicholson-Hickling, PSHE leader, who organises the training, said: "Cycling is a life skill and it is something I am very pleased we are able to offer our children. There are so many people involved in road traffic accidents as cyclists and unfortunately some are fatal.
"This training means our children are able to be safe both when cycling off the road but on the road as well. The Bikeability trainers are fantastic with the children and make the sessions fun, engaging and very worthwhile. They cycle in their local area, learning skills that they can use outside of school and into their adulthood."
According to Bikeability, they offer essential cycling skills. They recently created and shared via their website a set of films for parents to use at home when teaching children to ride.
The children in Year 5 commented: "I love Bikeability! I feel much more confident riding my bike and I know how to be safe. It's been a brilliant two days."
Another commented: "I felt really wobbly on my bike before but now I feel really confident. I can ride uphill as well which I couldn't do before!"
