Saddleworth band qualifies for national finals

Dobcross Silver Band celebrate in style.

Dobcross Silver Band have qualified for the national finals after being crowned champions in the regional qualifying contest at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens.

The Silver Band competed in the North West area regional qualifying contest in the 3rd section and were crowned the 2025 3rd Section Champions. They also won the best bass category prize. 

A spokesperson for the group said: “A fantastic day was had by all, and a massive thank you goes out to our conductor, Jason M Smith who left no stone unturned in his preparations leading up to the day.” 

The band now look forward to competing at the Brass Band National Finals in Cheltenham, in September. 

Dobcross Silver Band is a world-famous brass band, established in 1875 and represents the small village community of Dobcross in Saddleworth. 

It is based at the equally famous Dobcross Band and Social Club which has received visits from various other bands as far away as New Zealand, Australia and America and is home to one of the annual Whit Friday Brass Band contests. 

The band has enjoyed success at the highest level of brass banding throughout its history and performs in contests and concerts throughout the year, both around Saddleworth and further afield.   

In addition to local contests and concerts, the Silver Band have a number of traditional engagements such as those at Manchester Cathedral, Shaw Playhouse and Whitsuntide event participation.  

The band also play regularly on request at private functions such as weddings and parties.
