The show can still go on for circus at Daisy Nook

The show will still go on for a circus in Daisy Nook, after it looked in doubt less than 48 hours before it was due to begin.  

Circus De Cuba are presenting En Mi Solar, a new 3D experience, at Daisy Nook Country Park.  

Ran by Big Kid Circus, the 'Cuban carnival' starts on Saturday (26 September) and runs until Sunday 4 October.  

But there was uncertainty surrounding whether it could go ahead after health and safety concerns were raised.  

Oldham Council gave it the green light on Friday, but said the company must have "a number of conditions in place". 

An Oldham Council spokesman said: "Our priority is keeping people safe during this difficult time. 

"We are working with the business to ensure appropriate controls are in place. Officers visited the site and have told the owners to put a number of conditions in place.  

"We will continue to monitor the situation and will not hesitate to take more formal action if required. 

"We are supporting businesses during the pandemic but will put appropriate measures in place where needed to prevent the spread of the disease."

Big Kid Circus say there will be stringent health and safety measures in place. 

The number of people allowed to attend each show has been reduced - from 25 per cent of capacity to 10 per cent, which is around 100 attendees.

Households are not allowed to mix and no more than six people are allowed in a group. People must wear face coverings at all times and adhere to social distancing.  

Visitors must also use the hand sanitiser provided and book in advance for the NHS Test and Trace system.

Monica Marcu, Digital Publicity Manager at Big Kid Circus, said: “We are pleased to be able to go ahead. It’s certainly better than nothing. It’s welcome and good for us that we will get some income at least.  

“Due to the new restrictions in place, we had to drop our capacity by 10 per cent. This is the most we could get by working with the council so we can survive this difficult period and we are very grateful for that.  

“But unfortunately due to these new conditions, we won’t be able to offer free entry for NHS badge holders.   

“We will be adding an extra show every week day at 2pm for shops who have displayed our poster in their windows as they have special red tickets which admit two people for free on purchase of a £6.99 brochure. They can be used just for that show once a day and must be booked at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/122690391263. 

“Our main aim is to keep a little corner of happiness open for the public, where children and families can forget about the horrible situation for just a short time at least.  

“We are confident that it will still be a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.”
