Avro Make It Two In A Row

North West Counties Premier Division: Avro 3-1 Hanley Town

Avro completed their first league double in Step 5 since their promotion yesterday as they defeated Hanley Town 3-1 after winning at the Potteries on Tuesday night, 0-2.

Avro had started as they had left off on Tuesday night with Danny Parkinson grabbing a well-worked goal after only 3 minutes.

The intent from Avro seemed evident for all as they dominated the opening stages.

It looked like a goal-fest would follow, but despite almost all one-way traffic on the visitor's goal, Avro failed to add to their early goal. As so often happens in football the hosts ended up regretting the missed chances of the first half as Neville Thompson broke free of the offside trap and finished well past Jordan Latham to level up for Hanley and make it 1-1 at the break.

The words of Lee and James at half time must’ve worked a treat as the Avro lads came out and picked up where they had left off. Chances came and went, and it started to feel like it was going to be one of those games again when the Oldham based sides effort and superior play weren't going to be rewarded with the points, a case we have seen so often this season.

Then on 86 minutes, Joe Bevan struck with a great shot that gave the Hanley keeper no chance. 2-1. Deep into injury time, substitute Kane Wallwork stepped up and took a trademark free-kick which flew past the visitor's keeper, one of the best struck free-kicks Avro will have seen as he made it 3-1.

Hanley ended the game with 9 men as the referee sent off two of the visitors each with their second yellow cards in the last 10 minutes of the game. A deserved victory in the end for Avro which takes their form to 3 wins out of the last 4 games and the result also ensured a league double over the Stoke- on- Trent club.
