Betfred: Big wins, Super League and FA Cup odds

It's shoot out time on Sunday for Erling Haaland and Harry Kane when City travel to Spurs for the game of the weekend.

Betfred have the Norwegian goal machine 5/2 favourite to score first while the England skipper, who was reportedly a Blues target last season, is 9/2 to hit the opener.

And for yet another hat-trick for Haaland well we are 12/1 while Kane is available at  40/1 to score three.

City go into the game as odds on favourites for all three points as they attempt to eat into Arsenal's lead at the top of the Premier League with Tottenham 7/2 for the win.

Betfred have Arsenal 8/11 favourites to be crowned champions with City 6/5 - and then rest like United at 40/1, Newcastle at 66/1 and quite remarkably Liverpool and Spurs at 400/1.

For the FA Cup City are 11/8 favourites at Betfred with United at 100/30 and everyone's second favourite team non-league Wrexham at 500/1.

Turning to the Betfred Super League and on Saturday we have a great example of what testimonials are all about, fans getting the chance to thank a stalwart of the game – and that’s exactly what Ben Currie has been for Warrington.

He’s entering his 10th season with the club, having made over 200 appearances during which he’s helped the Wire win the League Leaders’ Shield and Challenge Cup.

He’s also made the England World Cup squad having recovered from ACL surgery, and I do hope the fans turn out in droves at the Halliwell Jones on Saturday for Currie’s testimonial against Betfred Super League new boys Leigh Leopards.

There are no more excuses for the Wolves to not make an impact this season – that’s the point Daryl Powell has been making after his grim debut season as head coach.

Powell is looking for a fresh start now his squad is totally transformed and admits there can be no excuses if the team doesn’t perform in the coming season.

He says he’s now got a tougher group with a winning mentality. Let’s hope that is the case, for the game does need a successful Wire – and fans are starting to agree with Wolves backed into 8/1 with us to win the 2023 Betfred Super League Grand Final.

One of the game's superstars George Williams, who will be a key figure yet again for Warrington in the new season, has also been speaking with confidence and makes a telling point that Warrington have great potential in attack but need to remedy matters in defence.

Betfred Super League is on the horizon

Here's the view of Oldham-born Paul Sculthorpe, the rugby league legend and Betfred TV pundit as we approach the start of a new Betfred Super League season:

"It’s certainly a baptism of fire for all bonquering Saints' new Head Coach Paul Wellens as the team land  in Australia on Thursday ahead of the World Club Challenge against the NRL Premiers Penrith Panthers.

"However, before that the Betfred Super League champs get to stretch their legs and get used to the hot climate in a run out against St George Illawarra the next weekend.

"Wello has been boosted by the inclusion of his first choice half back Lewis Dodd. Dodd made a try-scoring return to action last Friday on what was not only Mark Percival’s Testimonial match but Doddies 21st birthday….and what a present to get that under his belt.

"As you can imagine it is a very long drawn out recovery waiting for the tear to heal, before the rehab starts to get the full range of movement and stretch back, not to mention the confidence to run.

"So, to see Lewis back and looking sharp as he did prior to injury is a big boost for all. I had the pleasure of working with him as a youngster at England Youth, and it was clear to me back then he has all the assets to go all the way. A naturally gifted player, but his biggest asset is his attitude and work ethic…and will no doubt be a key figure in Saints charge for five in a row.

"It will be interesting to see Wello’s selections for both games, with all focus being on being as full strength as possible come the Feb 18  crunch  at the home of the Panthers.

"It was a close 16-12 win on Friday against Widnes, as Percy kicks off his testimonial year. He didn’t play as he continues his rehab ahead of the Betfred Super League season…but the rest of the boys who played pretty much all come through unscathed with 80mins under their belt. That of course is all that matters in pre-season.

"Title sponsors Betfred, unsurprisingly have the Aussie Champions as the odds on  favourites to win the WCC, but as we’ve always known…and proven in this particular fixture in the past…’never right off the Saints!’

"It is a bit of the unknown at this time of year with neither team playing a competitive game prior…so underdogs or not if you fancy the Four-time Super League Champions they are currently 2/1 with Betfred.

"Finally, although Saints have to wait a further week…the rest of Super League gets underway the same weekend as the World Club Challenge, and it will be fascinating to see where the biggest challenge will come from to stop Saints domination.

"Here are a few new players to the Betfred Super League 2023, hoping to inspire their respective teams. Look out for:

Josh Maguire (Warrington Wolves)

Siosiua Taukeiaho (Catalan Dragons)

Jake Wardle (Wigan Warriors)

Tex Hoy (Hull FC)

Let battle commence….!"

68-year-old wins big on Betfred bet

Sunnier climes beckon for a Betfred regular who has won £92,850 from a 25p Heinz bet.

After celebrating with a few gin and tonics, retired HGV driver Kevin Wood and his wife are leafing through the holiday brochures with a view to jetting off to the Caribbean.

“It took me less than 20 minutes or so to pick my six horses because I find the longer you start studying the form the more obstacles you find.

“I went for Gold Tweet because it had come over from France where the weather was better so I knew he would be fit – while Copper Cross, who was a 16/1 winner, was a funny choice because I follow Sir Bob on TV and it was the jockey’s only ride of the day at Cheltenham.

“It was pure luck how I also picked Il Ridoto, Ahoy Senor and Rock My Way at Cheltenham along with Stay Away Fay at Doncaster.

“It’s lovely to win so much and I want to thank Fred Done, even if he is a United supporter and I back Chelsea!

“When I won, I had a few gin and tonics with my wife. She just didn’t believe I could win so much from such a tiny stake, and I’ll definitely be buying her something at some stage.

“We’ll be going on a good holiday somewhere warm like the Caribbean. Barbados and Cuba are among our favourite destinations.”

Kevin, a father-of-three with five grandchildren and one great grandchild, saw his win – which should have been £65,000 – boosted by over £27,000 thanks to our Best Odds Guaranteed promotion.

A Heinz bet, which was named after the Heinz 57 trademark, involves 57 bets across six selections – 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 four-fold accas, six five-fold accas and one six-fold acca.

Kevin has worked for 40 years as a HGV driver and must have spent some of that time thinking about a big win like this.

And finally a big Betfred winner has taken no time at all to book a swanky holiday in Turkey for him and his extended family after winning £50,000 from a £2 bet on the New York Lotto.

The 63-year-old retired factory worker from Newcastle enjoyed his success after his Lucky Dip numbers were all drawn out.

“I’m trying to stay calm about all this, even if it is my biggest ever win,” said the jubilant Geordie, who joked he can now afford to buy a season ticket to watch the high-flying Newcastle United.

“We have the chance of winning something for the first time in many years, and hopefully I’ll get to go to some games.

“My wife, who can’t believe we’ve won so much, wouldn’t even take a day off work despite me telling her to do so!

“I’ve won the Irish Lottery three times over the years, picking up £6,000 each time, and in the New York Lotto once won £25,000 – but to win £50,000 from a £2 bet is just fantastic.

“We’re off to Turkey with my wife, our grown-up children and grandchildren, basically to escape the cold here.

To win £50,000 from such a tiny stake is brilliant news for this customer who has been with us for over 10 years.

I'm partial to Turkish delights, so wouldn't mind a box for my birthday which is coming up!
