Droylsden rescued a point on Saturday, coming from behind twice after playing most of the second half with ten men against Ashton Town.
Both sides traded chances in the first half. Early on, the home team had the opportunity to head home through Mike Burkes, but he was unable to get a clean connection and was saved by Phillip Pole.
Some good link-up play between Tawab Djankpata and Sheriff Njie in the tenth minute led to an opportunity, but Njie’s effort went over the bar.
The Bloods then went closest to opening the scoring in the 17th minute. Djankpata once again the provider, this time finding Ben Lowe, whose shot was superbly saved by Kyle Trenerry, and despite an end-to-end opening 45 minutes, the game remained goalless at the break.
It didn’t take long after the restart for the deadlock to be broken. Leon Wright’s ball into the box was met by the head of William Hamilton, beating the onrushing Pole in the 54th minute.
Things then got worse for Dave Pace’s side. Minutes after the goal, they were a man down, as goalkeeper Pole was shown a red card for a foul on George Lomax. This forced them to play an outfield player in goal.
Droylsden would find a way back into the contest through a penalty in the 70th minute. Djankpata initially fouled before Caelan Kilheeney made no mistake from 12 yards.
A crazy end to the game followed. The home side would take the lead again in the 75th minute through Lomax; however, the Bloods continued to show their character, responding almost immediately with a goal from Kyle Foley.
Considering the circumstances, this was a very good point for the Bloods. Picking up a point on the road to extend their unbeaten run and keep up their promotion push. Droylsden now face Route One Rovers on Saturday, who are 16th in the league table.
