Glossop North End boss Richard Brodie couldn’t hide his frustration after two of his players left for pastures new this week.
Defenders Joe Pennington and David Badrock joined the relegation fights at Colne and Prestwich Heys, respectively, leaving the Hillmen short of cover at the back.
“We had a conversation on Tuesday night with them both,” Brodie said after their 1-1 draw at Litherland REMYCA on Saturday.
“I’m really disappointed the way things have gone with David because he's become a real fans’ favourite. You can hang your hat on him every week and you know what you’re gloing to get at centre back and left back.
“He’s been magnificent, but on Tuesday night he said that he didn’t want to go to Prestwich, he wanted to stay, and could we get near to what Prestwich were offering him?
“This is what you’re dealing with. You’ve got teams who are second-bottom offering David Badrock double the money that we’re paying him.
“So, I met him halfway, and he comes back to tell me that it’s about him playing with his brother [James] at Prestwich. Well, if he’d have told me that on Tuesday night, I’ll hold my hands up.
Brodie didn’t have any rancour towards Pennington, though, who found himself on the fringes of the squad over the past couple of months after starting the season as a first-choice central defender.
“I was trying to do Penno a favour by getting him some minutes, as I couldn’t see him getting in with Hoppo [Jack Hopkins], Ollie Parker, and David [Badrock].
“Me and Penno have shook hands and he’s gone away, then an hour later I get that off David Badrock.”
Coming in to reinforce the back line is Brad Elms, who joins from North West Counties Division One South side, Barnton, who he made 20 appearances for this season.
The Liverpudlian has also previously turned out for Southport, Chorley and Burscough.
