Stalybridge Celtic have unveiled Danny Taberner as their new number one.
The well-travelled stopper joins after his release from Macclesfield, where he came in as back-up midway through last season after short stays at Guiseley and Clitheroe.
Speaking to Celtic’s website, Taberner, 30, said: “Stalybridge is a massive club and one that I am excited to be a part of.
“We’re aiming high and I can’t wait for the new season.”
He first made a name for himself as a 16-year-old when he became Rochdale’s youngest goalkeeper in a 2-0 FA Cup defeat at home against Luton Town.
After his release from Spotland in 2012, he played for several clubs in the North West Counties League, before arriving at Atherton Collieries. His 134 appearances over three spells are more than any other Colls ‘keeper this century.
He was an integral part of the Runcorn Linnets team that missed out in the 2022/23 play-off final in the Northern Premier League West, winning the Young Supporters’ Player, Supporters’ Player and Manager’s Player of the Year awards.
Taberner arrives at Bower Fold after a promising season from teenage Liverpool loanee Luke Hewitson, who returns to Anfield.
“Tabs didn’t quite play as much as he wanted last year,” says Stalybridge boss James Kinsey. “But he is hungrier than ever to succeed here, which ticks a big box.
“Secondly, he’s a proven player in this league and has invaluable experience to lead us from the back.
“We have a top, top ‘keeper and we are delighted he has chosen to join us.”
Taberner is Kinsey’s seventh new signing of the summer, joining an experienced roster that includes six former Hyde United outfield players.
