Chadderton Lose Out In The Cup

Chadderton kick off their Manchester Premier Cup campaign tonight as they look to recover from Saturday’s PlayerMatch.com Cup defeat at home to Pilkington.

Chadderton went into Saturday’s game having already beaten their opponents away from home this season in the league. Chadderton were also on the back of a five-game winning run coming into the game and they also won the September cub of the month award in their division after their fine run of form.

Pilkington started the game brighter and looked the most likely team to score as they controlled the game. In the 35th minute, Pilkington thought they were ahead as Matthew Taylor fired a shot from just outside of the box but Chadderton stopper Jordan Hadlow saved well.

On the stroke of half time Pilkington again nearly opened the scoring as Luke Sephton was played through on goal but Scot Cullen recovered to get the tackle in.

On the 58th minute, Jordan Butterworth went close for Chadderton as his freekick was saved well by the Pilkington keeper.

On the 68th minute, Pilkington were ahead after Phil Marsh found some space and rifled a shot in off the post to put the visitors 1-0 up.

The game stayed the same until the 90th minute when Chadderton were awarded a last gasp penalty which Daniel McLaughlin took only for his effort to fly over the bar sending Pilkington through to the next round.

Tonight Chadderton travel to Maine Road in the opening round of the Manchester Premier Cup. The Oldham based club managed to reach the semi-finals last year and they will be hoping that they can go a few better this season.

Maine Road have been on a good run of form lately by winning four of their last six matches. They have scored an impressive 25 goals in their last six games meaning they will be a huge threat to Chadderton tonight.
