If you’re a regular reader of City Watch, you’ll know that I’ve been away for a few weeks and unable to write the column.
However, I’m now back, and what a great time for it, right in the middle of an international break!
Either way, there’s been some City players starting for their country over the past week, especially for England, who now have a new manager, Thomas Tuchel who will takeover in 2025.
Before I discuss what the new manager may mean for City players, there’s been a few England games this week with some Bues making appearances. The two games this international break were against Greece and Finland. With the absence of Harry Kane, John Stones captained for the first time for his country with the only downside for him being a 2-1 loss in the game.
The second game saw Jack Grealish get himself an appearance and a goal. I’m hoping this will do his confidence a lot of good after missing out on the Euros squad over the summer and not having the best start to the season for City.
Not onto what the appointment of Thomas Tuchel means for Manchester City. For me, this is quite an exciting prospect as I’m eager to see what Tuchel’s plans are for some of the English Manchester City players, specifically Phil Foden. I think a lot of people would agree that Phil hasn’t exactly lighten the world on fire when putting on his nation’s shirt.
We all know the ability and potential the 24 year old possesses and I think a new era on the international front could prove to be vital for Foden. I’ve always been a huge fan of him playing through the middle and always thought he’s been wasted out on the wing. I personally don’t think tournament style football has ever suited Phil, however, I’m intrigued to see where Tuchel will fit him in.
Thankfully, club football and Man City are back this weekend, with a trip to Wolves on Sunday. Gary O’Neil’s team haven’t had the best start to the new season, however, we lost 2-1 in this fixture last season, so I’m praying that the next edition of City Watch is a victorious one.
