Despite remaining unbeaten at home this season, Droylsden will be disappointed that they could not pick up all three points after a 0-0 draw with Bacup Borough at the weekend.
However, they found their scoring touch in the Macron Cup on Tuesday night, beating Abbey Hey 4-0.
Saturday was the second successive game at the Butchers Arms that the Bloods were held to a 0-0 draw, as Dave Pace’s side could not find a breakthrough. Droylsden had several chances in the first half to score and could not find an answer to a stubborn Bacup side.
The Bloods have lots of attacking talent and teams have begun the recognise this threat and sat deeper to restrict the Bloods from utilising their frightening pace in behind. This is something that they will need to learn to break down if they are to continue their title pursuit.
They then went into Tuesday night’s game with a new addition to their frontline, with George Kattah joining the Bloods from Wythenshawe Town after scoring 21 goals last season for Sandbach FC.
Kattah wasted no time introducing himself to the fans, scoring twice in the opening 22 minutes of their Macron Cup tie against Abbey Hey.
After the break, two more goals were added, first from Caelan Kilheeney before Harry Forshaw wrapped up the scoring just before full-time. All in all, a much-needed confidence booster for Droylsden.
After the Bloods were withdrawn from the Macron Cup Final for fielding an ineligible player last season, they will be hoping they can go deep into the competition once again and earn their first piece of silverware since their reformation. And his was the perfect way to begin their cup campaign.
Dave Pace’s side travel to Maghull on Saturday, where they will need to show they can open up a resilient side and get back to winning ways in the league before welcoming AFC Blackpool in the Edward Case Cup the following Tuesday.
