Curzon advance in Youth Cup

Curzon Ashton's Under-18s will face Oldham Athletic in the FA Youth Cup second round proper, after an impressive 2-1 win over Blackpool Under-18s on Tuesday night.

The young Nash took the lead at the Tameside Stadium on 17 minutes, when Luke Bertenshaw bundled the ball into the back of the net from a free-kick inside the six-yard box.

The visitors equalised just before the break. Tony Weston whipped the ball into the area towards Ellis Wilson, who looped a header over Liam Lovell and into the net.

But Curzon restored their lead with what proved to be the decisive goal on 62 minutes, when substitute Brandon Dawson slotted the ball past Charlie Monks.

Curzon coach Rory Shadbolt said afterwards: “I’m so proud of the boys, they worked so hard for each other tonight in and out of possession. The result was fully deserved but full credit to Blackpool for the really competitive game.”

Curzon will face Oldham in the second round on Saturday 16 November, after the young Latics beat Nantwich Town 4-1 at Boundary Park.
