Curzon curbed by County

National League outfit Stockport County proved too much for Curzon on Saturday, as the Nash were condemned to a 2-0 defeat Edgeley Park.

It took the hosts just 18 minutes to take the lead, Alex Reid capitalised on  a weak back-pass and rounded goalkeeper Cameron Mason before slotting home.

The Hatters scored their second and decisise goal on the stroke of half-time. After finding the ball just inside the 18-yard box, Adam Thomas hit an effort into the bottom left corner. 

Curzon were back in pre-season action on Tuesday night at home to Altrincham. The club will then host Padiham and FC Halifax Town before entering the FA Cup at the second qualifying round stage on Saturday, October 3.

The Nash begin their National League North campaign two days later against Alfreton Town at the Tameside Stadium.

Speaking to Curzon’s media team following the release of the season fixtures, manager Steve Cunningham said: 

He said: “I was a bit like a kid at Christmas awaiting the fixtures, we’ve drawn a tough first five games, all of which will present different challenges, none more so than the first game against Alfreton. They’ve got a very experienced manager in Billy Heath and I’m looking forward to going up against him. Alfreton will be a strong, direct team and it won’t be an easy game whatsoever, none of them are in this league,  you’ve got to play everyone twice and we’re excited to get going.

“Just getting that fixture list, it feels real now that I’m in the hot seat. There’s brilliant teams with some great stadiums that we’re going to be travelling to and as a club we’re eager to get going.

“It’s a baptism of fire for us as a management team, we’re playing two of the teams that were in the play-offs in Brackley and Chester in our first five. It’ll be a tough month, but a great way to start the campaign against some of the league’s best teams. We’re looking forward to some great local games too, there’s some tasty ones within them.”

In player news, winger Isaac Sinclair has left the club to pursue more game time.

He joins striker Nic Evangelinos, who has opted for a move to Stalybridge Celtic.

Evangelinos has most recently spent two seasons with Ramsbottom United, scoring 51 goals in 72 appearances in the Northern Premier League Division One West.
