Cricket fans were treated to a peach of a day on Saturday, the last day of meteorological summer.
As the season winds down in the Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket Leage (Sponsored by Complete Weed Control) the First Division teams are now carefully weighing up the remaining fixtures of the season. Results from this weekend’s play have brought about a shift in the league table standings.
Broadbottom CC vs Dinting CC
A pivotal match between 4th and 3rd in the league table. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first. Dinting made 132 all out (32.1) with J. Lythgoe top scoring on 36 runs. There was some outstanding bowling from Broadbottom’s T. Gull who took an incredible 5-14 (7.1) with 1 maiden. In response, Broadbottom made 133-1 (23) with A. Walsh hitting 65 not out (including 8 fours and 3 sixes). Broadbottom won by 9 wickets, moving up to 3rd in the League Table. [Broadbottom 20 points, Dinting 2 points]
Hazel Grove CC vs Stalybridge CC
The home side won the toss and elected to field first, putting Stalybridge in to bat. Stalybridge 206 all out (37.4) with R. Wright top scoring on 56 runs, closely followed by D. Humphreys on 52 runs. Hazel Grove’s C. Higson took a storming 6-44 (10.4) including 1 maiden. In response, Hazel Grove made 208-3 (41.5) with a fabulous knock from M. Chester who made 96 not out (hitting 12 fours). C. Higson also featured with the bat, scoring 86 runs (including 10 fours and 1 six). Hazel Grove won by 7 wickets. [Hazel Grove 20 points. Newton CC vs Dove Holes CC
Newton won the toss and elected to bat first. Newton made 131 all out (34) with J. Cragg top scoring on 51 not out. Dove Holes’ D. Waterhouse was on fire, taking 6-22 (12) six of which were maidens. In response, top of the League Table, Dove Holes chased hard but could only reach 128 all out (30.3) with T. Forder top scoring on 55 runs (7 fours and 3 sixes). Newton’s bowlers were on target with C. Barnard taking 5-27 (7) including 2 maidens, and R. Goodall taking 4-51 (8). Newton won by 3 wickets. [Newton 17 points, Dove Holes 7 points]
Old Glossop CC vs Hayfield CC
Hayfield won the toss and elected to bat first. Hayfield made 178 all out (41.3) with R. Evans top scoring on 38 runs. There were 4 wickets each for R. Adderley (4-38 from 8.3 overs) and E. Walsh (4-71 from 12 overs, 2 maidens). In response, Old Glossop made 179-4 (30.5) with a fabulous knock from C. Kean on 72 not out, supported by C. Joy on 57 runs. Hayfield’s J. Adamson took 3-41 (12) with 2 maidens. Old Glossop won by 6 wickets. [Old Glossop 20 points, Hayfield 6 points]
Tintwistle CC vs Pott Shrigley CC
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first. Pott Shrigley made 83 all out (22.4) the highest score going to the extras (22) followed by J. Buckley on 17 runs. There were 3 wickets apiece for Tintwistle’s A. Brown (3-31 from 8, 3 maidens) and S. Rose (3-9 from 3.4 overs). In response, Tintwistle made 84-2 (16) with K. Davies top scoring on 46 not out, giving Tintwistle the win by 8 wickets. [Tintwistle 19 points, Pott Shrigley 1 point]
Whaley Bridge CC vs New Mills CC
New Mills won the toss and elected to bat first. New Mills made 199 all out (43.1) with T. Littler top scoring on 41 runs. Whaley’s E. Ford took 4-44 (12) with 2 maidens, and J. Higginbotham made 3-19 (12) including 3 maidens. In response, Whaley Bridge could only reach 156-8 (45) despite a great knock from L. Jones who made 72 runs. New Mills won by 43 runs.
