Droylsden hit for four at Clitheroe

BetVictor North West: Clitheroe 4-0 Droylsden

The Bloods' record of never having won at Clitheroe was extended on a dull and damp afternoon at Shawbridge as the home team’s push for promotion continued with a fifth consecutive win.

It was a disappointing performance from Dave Pace’s team who could only muster one shot on goal in the 90 minutes.

After an even first 20 minutes they fell behind to a penalty after keeper Chris Thompson brought down Owen Watkinson and Connor Gaul scored from the spot.

Almost from the kick off the home side could have doubled their lead, Cummings put through only for Thompson to save from close range and Cummings was denied again but Thompson who tipped his long range shot around the post just before half time.

The home side took control of the game in the second half, Watkinson pushing his attempt inches wide of the post three minutes in.

Clitheroe doubled their lead on 62 minutes, Carney clinically finishing Watkinson’s after the Bloods defence opened up.

Twelve minutes later as Droylsden pushed to get back into the game, Clitheroe broke the left and Lee Neville deflected the ball into his own net.

With five minutes to go Watkinson made it four for the home team finishing a miserable day for the Bloods.
