Droylsden out of FA Trophy

FA Trophy preliminary round replay: Workington 3-1 Droylsden

The Bloods' FA Trophy journey came to an end in Cumbria on Tuesday night, after two goals by David Symington in the space of five second-half minutes stifled out Steve Rigby’s equaliser after the home team had taken an early first-half lead.

Symington fired into the back of the net on 57 minutes and then got the slightest touch on Broadbank’s cross from the left-hand side to find the far corner of the net.

It had been a fairly even game up until then, Allison had put the home team ahead on the half-hour mark after a lively start as they had done at the Butchers Arms three days earlier.

But the Bloods had their chances - the best falling to Danny Wilkins, set up by great work from Rhys Clooney, who beat his man on the byline to give Wilkins a clear shot on goal, only for it to be blocked by a defender.

Thompson had been called into action earlier, saving a close-range header from Hubbold early on and then denying Allison with a goal-line save.

The Bloods equalised on the resumption, Steve Rigby striking home after being set up by brilliant work from Clooney, before Workington’s two goals put the tie to bed.
