Stalybridge Celtic continued their fine form on Tuesday as they secured a 5-0 win in their game against Atherton Collieries.
A brace from Liam Tongue and goals from Jack Tinning, Josh Quarless and Joe Edwards helped the Celts grab a convincing win at the Skuna Stadium.
After opening the scoring in the 38th minute through a penalty, Stalybridge were ruthless and kept piling on and creating a lot of chances against Colls. Atherton were unable to create clear-cut chances as Celtic's defence was well positioned to stop them. The dominant win means that the Celtic are now at the top of the table after two games.
"We’ve dominated from start to finish and yeah I’m pleased about the performance, but I’m more pleased about the last two goals because the patience in the build-up was phenomenal," said Stalybridge’s coach James Kinsey.
Stalybridge’s next opponent will be Widnes, who they play in the FA Cup Preliminary round on Saturday, August 17.
A hat trick from home winger Alex Hurst saw the hosts home after Ashton had looked comfortable for most of the first half at the F.Ball Community Stadium on Saturday.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have continued their mission to overhaul Manchester United’s finances by announcing that the club would be increasing season ticket prices by around 5%, an average of £2.50 per game.
