Former Hyde United player receives World Cup call up

Iliman Ndiaye - Hyde United

Former Hyde United player, Iliman Ndiaye, has travelled to Qatar to represent Senegal in the World Cup.

The Tigers never expected to receive a shoutout in the coverage of the World Cup, that was until former player Ndiaye helped to put Hyde on the map.

He’s has had an extraordinary rise from his origins in Sunday League, but Ndiaye’s talent always stood out amongst the rest.

The 22-year-old first made an appearance at Ewen Fields in 2020 on loan from Sheffield United, who he signed for in 2019 as a youth player.

An attacking midfielder, he started his career at Boreham Wood, before taking a huge leap and heading to the World Cup with Senegal.

Ndiaye was a 74-minute substitution as Senegal beat hosts Qatar 3-1 to pick up their first win of the tournament.

It really is no wonder he was chosen for the squad. The rise of the forward in the Sheffield United team has been noticed across the footballing world.

He put in some fine performances for Sheffield this year, proving to be a valued member of the club.

Now, after just one full season in football, Ndiaye has received his Senegal call, showcasing his talent under big pressure. Sheffield United will be building around his talent for the future, but his national call up is certainly deserved.

Hyde United were beyond proud to see Illiman in the squad:
