Free Spirit Karate club looking for new members

The Free Spirit Karate club in Glossop have been going for over 10 years now, and are constantly looking for people to come down and join them.

The club host sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and if you are interested in attending a session, you can contact the club on Facebook.

All newcomers will get their first four lessons absolutely free, so they can get a feel for how the club is run, without spending a penny.

The club offer sessions to those of all ages, and currently have members ranging from five years old to 66 years old so it really is a club that is open to anyone.

When asked what makes his club different to other karate clubs, owner Jed Stubbs noted that, “We are still very traditional, but we believe it is important to evolve, to keep the core nucleus, but to be prepared to see what else works, and what might work better”.

“It’s a way of life, it’s not just about kicking and punching, it’s about showing respect to one another”, he added.

Jed noted that many of his pupils enjoy karate because they see it as a break from normal life, “It is something that you will always have, a constant, it doesn’t matter what’s happening in your life, if you have problems you can go to karate as an escape, and for those couple of hours all you need to focus on is karate”.

Jed was keen to highlight the part he enjoys most about being an instructor, “For me it’s the legacy I will leave, these young people will always remember and be influenced by what I have taught them, and they’ll pass that knowledge on.” “We want to make people better people that’s how we look at it” he added.

The variation of sessions is also something Jed enjoys, “The beauty of karate is that there are so many different moves, you think you have learned all of them but you haven’t, you’ve just scratched the surface”.

As mentioned, the club offer their first four lessons absolutely free, which not many clubs in the area offer, owner Jed says this is so members can get an insight into what the lessons are like, without spending any money, “Because our lessons are different each time, you might come to one and not particularly like that specific session, so it allows you to get a full flavour of all the types of sessions that we offer”.

If you are interested in attending a session, the club have an open-door policy, so feel free to turn up to any of the sessions. Alternatively, you can contact the club on Facebook at Free Spirit Karate, or visit their website: www.freespiritkarate.co.uk for more information.
