Glossop Golf Club celebrate their ladies' achievement

The ladies’ section of Glossop Golf Club held its annual presentation evening at the club last week.

Ladies’ captain, Brenda Carr, was delighted by the support she received on the night from many of Glossop’s lady golfers.

Rebecca Hodgkins had her season’s achievements recognised when she was presented with the Hilda Dartington Award, a trophy given to the golfer with the largest handicap reduction during the year. Rebecca managed to shave an amazing sixteen shots off her handicap, a feat that was clearly reflected by the fact that she was also the winner of two of the club’s major honours, the Spring Cup and the Yates’ Salver.

On a par with Rebecca’s achievements, Joan Hanson won three of the club’s major trophies.

She won the Challenge Cup early in the season and followed that up with victories in the Centenary Trophy and one of the final majors of the year, the Nellie Williams’ Cup. Joan took the Cup with a score of 73, one clear of second placed Dee Kuczaj on 74, followed by Rebecca in third on 75.

Nicki Spacey came to the fore when she took the honours in both the Moss Cup and the Tweedale Rose Bowl. The pairing of Patsy Wood and Elsie Johnson won the Margaret Cheetham Cup, the Marion Sidebottom Trophy was won by Gill Dyson and, not to be outdone, the lady captain herself, Brenda Carr, won the Singles’ Cup.

In one of the most recent competitions, a single stableford, Joan Hanson continued her good form by winning division one on 33 points, with Jill Dyson in second on 27 and Cath Stewart third on 24.

The second division went to Anne Hodgkins who scored 35 points, well clear of second placed Norma Westwell’s 28 and Margaret Baron in third on 27.

The season itself has been an outstanding success for the ladies of Glossop and they are looking to build on the foundations laid this year by attracting and welcoming more women and girls to the club in the coming year.
