Glossop North End pays its respects to much-loved volunteer and fan

Almost a hundred people safely gathered on Surrey Street on Monday to pay their respects to much-loved Glossop North End volunteer, fan and friend Keith Thompson.

On the morning of his funeral, the cars left Pikes Lane at 10.15am before making their way to the football club, where club officials and fans lined the street - lots wearing the club's blue and white colours - to say their final goodbye to Keith.

The hearse stopped for a minute outside the ground and then fans started to applaud as it pulled away slowly, closely followed by the mourners cars, before making their way to Stockport Crematorium.

Everyone in attendance adhered to social distancing guidelines.

Keith, who died earlier this month, epitomised everything that is good about non-league football, devoting his time and efforts to the club that he loved.

Keith, who lived in Glossop, was also passionate about stock car racing and in his younger days competed at tracks at Belle Vue, Manchester and at Rochdale.
