Glossop Win In Seven Goal Thriller

BetVictor South East: Glossop North End 4-3 Chasetown

Glossop claimed all three points at the Amdec Forklift Stadium on Saturday, beating Chasetown by four goals to three. The score flattered the away team as this was a much more convincing win than the one-goal margin suggests. 

Glossop attacked from the first whistle and it was 2-0 after eleven minutes – the first a neat finish from Ahmadi and then Burey finished a flowing move which tore open the Chasetown defence. 

Glossop continued to make chances and came close to increasing the lead. Maeico was denied by a last-ditch tackle and Ahmadi went close again. As half time approached, Chasetown came more into the game but it was still 2-0 at the break.

The game seemed to be over in the 50th minute when determined pressure from the Glossop front three produced a poor Chasetown clearance and the ensuing through ball brought a class finish from Ahmadi to make it 3-0. 

A goal for Chasetown in the 65th minute seemed to be just a consolation, especially when Sheriff swept home Coulibaly’s cross to make it four after 83 minutes. Football can be unpredictable, however, and suddenly, without doing anything special, Chasetown had made it 4-3 – a penalty for a trip in the area for the first and then poor Glossop defending allowing Cater to make it a tense last six minutes. 

The Chasetown captain, Wynter, came close to stealing a point with a header just wide but Glossop safely saw out added time to send the fans home happy. That is four games unbeaten in the league and the Hillmen are at home again next Saturday against Market Drayton. 

Joint manager Peter Band said after the game, “A draw would have been an injustice given the quality of the football we played today. The squad are improving every week and the spirit is excellent”.
