A big day at the newly opened Glossop Community Sports Hub, the club's new Cemetery Road home saw the 1st team move to 10th in the Manchester Football League, Division 2.
With two girls games kicking off the first competitive fixtures in the morning it was the turn of the Open Age men's squad and they didn't disappoint on a blustery day at their high peak home.
It was Milton who went in front however on 22 minutes after a slow start from the boys in blue as they struggled to settle in the game. But skipper Callum Cheetham's whipped pass found talisman young gun Matty Birkhead free , whose pace saw him into the box to slot home, 1 v 1 at the break.
Johnny Gabriel, back in the side as a make shift left back created the second goal on 65 minutes after a number of chances had gone begging, Josh Pearson, Fergal O'Grady and Matty all going close. His through ball clipped into Callum Manley's was expertly toe poked home from 15 yards to put the home team deservedly in front.
Minutes later Pearson was upended in the Milton Box, top scorer Fergal O'Grady scoring his 18th goal of the season from the penalty spot. Charlie Goddard looked dangerous on the flank until his substitution which saw a first team debut for under 17 Chay Lomas.
Glossop conceded a later goal, Deacon Everett in goal beaten but not after a very good defensive display from stalwarts Charlie Morris and Lewis Woolstencroft.
On a day when the result did mean a lot for the team and the club, the blues delivered, Milton more than playing their part in an entertaining game at the clubs new home in the hills.
