Hyde's unbeaten run came to controversial end up at Whitby on Saturday.
The Tigers travelled up to the North Yorkshire coast unbeaten in 16 games, having last lost in November.
On a difficult surface it was the home side who had the better of the first half, with Brad Fewster forcing a save out of Jordan Eastham early
on. It was Whitby who took the lead just before the half hour a nice move found Nathan Thomas who charged into the area and toe poked it past Eastham. Lewis Alessandra had a chance to equalise just before half time when good work from Manasse Mampala down the left found the former Oldham man with just Shane Bland, in the home goal, to beat but the ball bobbled away from the forward and Bland was able to smother. After some strong words from manager Nick Spooner at half time the Tigers came out much the better and were starting to force the home side back getting their rewards on 62 minutes when Joel Amado headed in Josh Doherty's corner for his first league goal of the campaign. There looked to be only winner after that as Harry Bunn's cross caused havoc in the Whitby defence as Coleby Shepherd very nearly put through his own net and their were also chances for Mampala and the returning Sonny Whittingham. It was the home side who grabbed the winner, in the last minute, in controversial circumstances as a free kick was floated into towards Fewster his shot hit the crossbar and bounced down, with no flag forthcoming from the assistant, referee Liam Smith then surprised everyone by blowing his whistle and awarding the goal much to the fury of the Hyde players and bench. With time running out Joe Bunney then had a good penalty claim turned down in the box with referee Smith opting to book the on loan Stalybridge man for diving instead. The result left Nick Spooner bemoaning the poor decisions which cost his side as they look to bounce back on Saturday at home to Atherton Collieries.
