Jon Matthews joins Glossop North End board

Jon Matthews, a new director at Glossop North End

Glossop North End has announced the arrival of Jon Matthews to the board of directors with immediate effect.

Jon will already be a familiar face to many North End fans, having helped out with various club programmes, football tournaments and extra sporting activities outside matchdays.

He has also been known in and around many circles of the Glossop North End Community Club, having been involved with the committee and operations with the GNE junior’s section.

Jon was also a massive part of the junior’s tournament at last year’s GNE beer festival, which saw ten teams from across the north west attending the beer festival, attracting new people to the club.

When asked about how the move came about, Jon noted that “It is something that has been on the back burner for a few years”. “When we discussed it a couple of weeks ago, we decided it was the right time for both parties”.

“I feel I have got something to offer to Glossop North End, I am very passionate about the club and am already heavily involved with the youth team, my children and I are supporters of the club and follow it home and away”, said Jon.

“It won’t really feel like work to me because it’s something that I will really enjoy and I can’t wait to get started”, he added.

Jon then went into a bit more detail on what his role at the club will be, “There are six weeks left in the season which will give me time to assess the situation at the club, then we can sit down over the summer and decide what the best role for me at the club is, and how I can contribute”.

Jon was also keen to highlight his excitement at being involved with the club, and what his plans for the future are, “It is what I have wanted for a while, to be involved with the club, and to be able to help with decision making and promoting the club”. “One of my main objectives is to improve the links to the community, to reach out more. I want to see a bigger connection between all clubs in the area, it is not just about Glossop North End.” “There are lots of other teams within the area like Tintwistle and Hayfield, we need to get those involved as well”, said Jon.
