Droylsden has bowed out in the second round of the Edward Case Cup on Saturday, losing 3-2 to Euxton Villa.
The Bloods were two goals up at halftime, but a second-half fightback from Matt Atherton’s side saw them progress when it looked like Droylsden was more likely to win.
Dave Pace’s side took only nine minutes to open the scoring, with Tawab Djankpata driving through the Euxton defence before slotting into the corner – his second goal of the season.
Droylsden then extended their lead in the 30th minute. Goalkeeper Oliver Lombard brought George Kattah down in the box, and Caelan Kilheeney scored from the resulting penalty. The home side looked comfortable, but the second half provided an unwelcome turn of events for the Butchers Arms crowd.
Euxton made several changes after the break, which led to their remarkable comeback. Within seven minutes of the restart, they had a goal back through Cameron Ross, heading home following a free kick from the left.
Within three minutes, the game was level, an almost identical situation. This time, a free kick from the right was headed home by Dan Singleton. From then on, the visitors had the momentum and completed their comeback in the 65th minute with a goal from Lewis Swarbrick.
Despite the best efforts of Droylsden, they were unable to respond and thus eliminated from the competition. There is still a chance of lifting cup silverware, as Droylsden are still in the Macron Cup, with a fixture against Stockport Town on 18th November but this one will sting.
The Bloods have a league fixture before that, taking on Maghull at home. The Merseyside outfit beat Droylsden 2-0 earlier on in the season and currently sit 12th in the table.
