Match Report: Guiseley 4-0 Hyde United

On Saturday Hyde took a trip over The Pennines to Guiseley for gameweek seven of The Northern Premier League season.

With both teams in good form it looked as though it would be a highly competitive game, however it was quite the opposite.

After just six minutes Hyde’s Connor Heath had the first chance of the game as a great ball in behind set him through, one on one with the keeper he shot right footed but Joe Cracknell denied him the opener.

That miss proved costly as the home side then gained some confidence. Ten minutes in and some really poor play on the edge of his own box saw Shakeal Jones-Griffiths lose the ball and then foul Leo Farrell, before Will Longbottom stepped up and whipped the ball into the bottom corner from the resulting free kick to score his third set piece in a row.

Nine minutes later Longbottom nearly had his second as he carved The Tigers defence apart before finding himself in front of Callum Hiddleston but his shot was saved well down to Hiddleston’s left.

On the half hour mark The Lions had their second as Harry Ditchfield’s sloppy pass found the head of John Lufudu on half way. He tried to pick out Farrell who battled well to win it ahead of Ben Kershaw before going past Will Hall and slotting the ball right footed into the bottom corner.

At halftime it was clear Guiseley would be the  happier of the two sides. with a two goal lead and other than Hyde’s early chance complete and utter dominance. The feeling was that the next goal in the game won the game and it did as it was a third for the home side.

Despite the visitors ‘huffing and puffing’ as Nick Spooner said at full time, they just couldn’t find any real momentum in the game.

The first chance of the second half was for the home side on 52 minutes as Farrell again caused Hyde problems. He motored into the boc before playing a square ball to Gabriel Johnson but another good save by Hiddleston denied The Lions a third.

On the hour mark Hyde finally had their second clear cut chance of the game as Jake Thompson delivered a good ball to Jack Redshaw on the penalty area but his header was saved brilliantly down to his left by Cracknell.

Five minutes later,  Longbottom was given a chance to make it four free kicks converted in a row. He again went to the keeper’s side but this time Hiddleston was ready for it and pushed the ball out for a corner.

From the resulting corner the ball was crossed to the front post where Farrell managed to get his head on it to flick it to the far post where it just creped under the bar to put the game to bed.

Guiseley continued to be a threat without managing to convert a chance, until a minute into injury time when another corner wasn’t dealt with and the ball dropped at the back post to Reece Kendall who struck first time to put the cherry on top for The Lions.
