Midweek Football Review

All our featured sides were in action on Tuesday night in their respective divisions.

In the National League North, Curzon Ashton were looking to put their opening two defeats to Banbury United and Buxton behind them, however they faced a tough trip to Kidderminster Harriers.

Adam Lakeland’s side put in a great performance and secured the three points thanks to a 2-1 victory, courtesy of goals from Will Hayhurst in the 24th minute, and Devon Matthews in the 66th minute.

Harriers did manage to pull one back with 15 minutes remaining through Ethan Freemantle, although it proved to be in vain as Curzon held out for the victory at Aggborough.

In the NPL Premier Division, Ashton United followed up Saturday’s opening day victory at Liversedge with a 1-1 draw against South Shields at Hurst Cross.

The Robins have high hopes of pushing towards the top end of the table this season and proved that they have the quality to achieve that objective with a respectable draw against last season’s playoff failures.

Cole Lonsdale’s free-kick in the first half put the Robins ahead, only for the visitors to level matters on the hour mark through Michael Woods.

The game attracted a crowd of 334 through the turnstiles in what marked Ashton’s first game at home.

Elsewhere, Stalybridge Celtic fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Warrington Town. The only goal of the fixture arrived on the stroke of half-time, Tom Hannigan headed home from close range after the ball was put across the face of goal.

Hyde United shared the spoils with Gainsborough Trinity in a 1-1 draw. Tayt Trusty’s cool finish in the 58th minute cancelled out Brad Wright’s penalty conversion in the 40th minute.

In the NPL West, Mossley have enjoyed a great start to the season with two consecutive victories. Louis Potts scored a late penalty to give the Lilywhites a 1-0 victory at Seel Park.

Glossop North End have also won their opening two games after following up Saturday's win against City of Liverpool with a 1-0 victory at Witton Albion. Keaton Mulvey, who has opted to stay with the club for another season, scored the decisive goal to send the Hillmen second.

In the Cheshire Football League, League One, Denton Town made it three wins from three with a 2-0 victory over Cheadle Heath Nomads Reserves. The Whittles Park outfit took the points thanks to Stephane Djedje and Aron Warmbold.
