Mossley progress in Manchester Premier Cup

Manchester Premier Cup First Round: Mossley 1-1 Abbey Hey (Mossley win on penalties)

Mossley have progressed to the second round of the Manchester Premier Cup after beating Abbey Hey on penalties.

Despite the two division gap between the sides, Mossley were put to the test by the visitors who took the lead int he 10th minute through captain Luke Hincks.

The Lilywhites responded well to the set back and levelled matters in the 21st minute when Jes Uchegbulam raced down the wing and crossed for Ben Halfacre who slotted home from close range.

Mossley were dealt a huge blow before half-time when Paul Marshall was stretchered off with a serious leg injury. He was subsequently taken to A&E and is now in splints ahead of an MRI scan.

Chances were few and far between in the second half and the game was taken to penalties, which the hosts won 4-2 thanks to efforts from Adam Morgan, Simon Lenighan, Ben Richardson and Gary Gee.

Mossley return to action on Saturday with a trip to Cleethorpes Town in the FA Trophy preliminary round.

That is all it would take for Latics to be serious contenders for a play-off place.
