Old Glossop celebrate double trophy triumph

Old Glossop 2nd XI are celebrating a double trophy triumph.

After winning the Hawke Trophy against Newton last weekend, the two sides met again to battle it out for the league trophy.

This time it was 40 overs aside as the two captains & umpires strolled to the middle for the toss, on what looked like a really good batting track.

Darren Acomb yet again lost the toss and, was to his surprise, asked to bat. So the Old Glossop lads padded up and got ready for battle once again.

Jehrome Sagar & the in form Josh Acomb made their way to the crease. The Old Glossop faithful was in fine voice but soon shocked in to silence as Sagar played a loose shot to a wide ball outside off, nicking it to first slip first ball of the game. Jamie Cannon joined Acomb to go on to a 130 partnership before falling abw to J Mercer for 34.

In the 23rd over the old Glossop middle order came and went. R Barrow chipping in with 15 and Ethan Lumb with 16. Josh eventually fell for 80 posting a total of 189 ao. With J mercer with figures of 5 for 39. After a short break, the Newton batsmen took to the field. With a devastating opening partnership of Darren and Josh Acomb, Newton slumped to 63 for 6. Both Acomb's taking three each. The visiting side were all out four overs later with Will Hallam taking two and Connor Keem taking the last wicket. A great season all round even if it was shortened by Covid-19 and congratulations to Old Glossop 2nds for winning the double.
