Preview: Manchester United v Burnley

The games are coming thick and fast at the moment, and Wednesday night provides an opportunity for Manchester United to return to winning ways.

Ole Gunner Solkjaer's side host Burnley in the Premier League at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils were, in truth, beaten fairly comfortably at Liverpool on Sunday, with the leaders claiming a 2-0 win thanks to a first-half header from Virgil Van Dyke and a last minute strike from Mo Salah.

Barring a complete meltdow at Anfield, victory on Sunday gifted Liverpool the title as the Reds are now 13 points ahead of Manchester City. They could further increase their lead at the top of the table with a win at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday.

Meanwhile, at Old Trafford, United's problems continue to persist with venom directed on a regular basis at executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward. United are currently fifth in the table and fighting for a spot in the Champions League. But with no new signings in January, and with the window set to close in nine days' time, patience is wearing thin amongst the United faithful and former club legends.

Former defender turned TV pundit, Gary Neville, had his say about this issue on Sunday. Following defeat to Liverpool, he said: "They have made some terrible investments in terms of recruitment.

"It's all coming home to roost. This is going to get bad. The next six months are going to be really difficult."

Although no new players have signed for the club, United have declared their interest in Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes. According to reports in Portugal today, the 25-year-old could finalise his deal by the end of the day. Without the injured Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay, United lack presence in the midfield department. They will also be without leading scorer Marcus Rashford, who is set to be sidelined for six weeks with a stress fracture to his back. 

Defender Eric Bailly and Tim-Fosu Mensah are fit to play, but Axel Tuanzebe and Marcos Rojo are still injured.

Tonight's visitors pulled off the biggest shock of the weekend with a 2-1 victory against third place Leicester City. The victory pushed them to 14th in the table and four points above the drop zone.
