Here are the latest developments in the Stalybridge Snooker League.
Week nine saw St Peters play Staly labour, Hyde Club play Hyde CC and Mossley A play Denton CC. This week we saw the last of the league new boys, Hyde Club ,win their first snooker match and what a match to do it in. They beat the league leaders 3-2, winning with a closely fought snooker doubles. In the matches Denton CC beat Mossley A and St Peters recorded their second 5-0 victory in consecutive weeks. These results mean that Hyde CC are only one point ahead of St Peters and they play each other next week.
In the Whist League, there were wins for Mossley A and Hyde Club and we now have Mossley A, Mossley B, Denton CC and Hyde Club tied on 10 points at the top of the league. Next week, Denton CC play Mossley B, Hyde CC play St Peters and Staly Labour play Mossley A.
Week 10 saw Hyde CC entertain St Peters in a top of the table clash. The snooker and billiards singles were shared and St Peters won the doubles when Alec Tate potted a re-spotted black, which left both clubs joint top with 29 points. In the other matches there was a 3-2 win by Staly Labour over Mossley A, and Denton Conservative Club recorded their first 5-0 against Mossley B.
In the whist, Denton also won their match as did St Peters against Hyde CC, leaving Denton on top with 12 points, two ahead of Mossley A, Mossley B, Hyde Club and St Peters. Both leagues are very close, roughly one third of the way through the season.
Week 11 saw Mossley A play Hyde Club, Denton CC play Staly Labour, and Hyde CC play Mossley B. St Peters have a free week.
In the Snooker League we had 3-2 wins for Mossley A, Hyde CC and Denton CC, leaving Hyde CC at the top and three points ahead of St Peters, who still have a game in hand. In the Whist League we had a win for Mossley B over Hyde CC which means we still have the top five clubs separated by only two points. Could not be closer.
Week 12 sees Staly Labour play Hyde CC, St Peters travel to Denton CC and Mossley B play Hyde Club. Mossley A have a free week.
