Right Said Fred: Talking betting with Betfred boss Fred Done

It’s just got to be a big win for England in the ‘Battle of Britain’ at Wembley on Friday night.

Gareth Southgate’s men to win 3-0 is my prediction – and that’s 7/1 at Betfred.

If you are one of those ever-optimistic Scots, the reverse scoreline is 150/1, which is an indication of just how superior this England side are.

Croatia are not the same team they once were, but even so they put up a half decent battle against the Three Lions – and the player I wouldn’t even have started, Raheem Sterling, proved me, and probably the vast majority of the public, wrong by grabbing the winner.

It was an instinctive strike, and that’s what the City winger is best at. Hats off to him, for he did have a cracking game.

I can’t see Southgate making many changes for the Scottish game, but I’m still advocating a start for Jack Grealish because he is always capable of doing something a bit different to unlock the most organised defences.

Whatever team he puts out, I’m absolutely convinced we will win because the fact is very few of those Scottish players, if any, would actually get into the England team.

Harry Kane, who wasn’t at his best against Croatia, is 2/1 at Betfred to bounce back and score the first goal – with man of the moment Sterling 5/1 to do likewise.

Phil Foden and Marcus Rashford are both 9/2 to get the opener – while for United fans, Scott McTominay is 12/1 to hit the back of the net anytime for Scotland.

The Wire are in cracking form having dispatched Wakefield Trinity 38-18, with winger Josh Charnley picking up a hat-trick of tries.

Also crossing was Gareth Widdop – and he’s 9/4 at Betfred to score anytime at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

Charnley, meanwhile, is 10/1 with us to continue his exploits by scoring the first try.

Saints, looking to leapfrog new Betfred Super League leaders Catalans Dragons at the top of the table, are 2/5 to beat the Wolves who are 9/4.

A huge congratulations to Kevin Sinfield from Saddleworth for receiving an OBE in the Queen’s birthday honours.

Sinfield was recognised for his efforts raising money for Motor Neurone Disease.

The 40-year-old former Leeds Rhinos superstar completed seven marathons in seven days for his former teammate Rob Burrow, who was diagnosed with MND in 2019.

His tremendous, headline-grabbing efforts aimed to raise £77,777 – but he actually generated an amazing £2.2million.

It’s absolutely brilliant that a fella like Sinfield should get an honour like this, doing something so honourable to help his pal and society in general.

Congratulations to a lucky grandad who has resisted his ‘dream’ of buying a new van after winning £28,000 on the Irish Lotto at Betfred.

The 53-year-old, from Southport, said: “I know it sounds odd, but I’m mad about vans and I thought I’d get myself a new Ford Transit with the winnings – but I forced myself to pay off a big chunk of the mortgage instead!”

The skip operator wagered £40 at the Betfred shop on Upper Aughton Road, Southport - and all of his three numbers, 10, 17 and 36, came up.

He went on: “The numbers were chosen a few years back when I was with three mates in the pub and we all chose one number each. 

“The week after, all three numbers came up, but I never bothered putting the bet on.

“I remember that day so vividly. I thought to myself that they must come up again so I’ve always stuck by the same numbers… and I’m glad I did.

“It’s not for me to get a new van, or a holiday, because we’ve got most things and my wife won a trip to New York in a five-star hotel in a television competition last year.

“I did think long and hard about getting a van, because I’ve got a thing about vans, but we’ve decided to pay off more of the mortgage.

“If I can get the mortgage paid off then I can retire earlier here at the seaside – that’s my big aim.

“We didn’t celebrate in particular, but obviously we’re absolutely delighted. Maybe we had an extra cup of tea that night!

“I’ve been into my betting for a long time. I used to go to the races with my dad, carrying his binoculars.” 

It just shows how you can win big from a small stake with us. 

Hopefully this fella can keep on winning and retire even earlier...and get himself the van he craves!
