Ashton United have been busy in the transfer market, bringing in three new signings over the weekend.

Firstly, midfielder Remi Efunnuga has joined from neighbours Mossley, whom he signed for in the summer.

The 19-year-old, who had a short spell in Croatia last season, has impressed with his performances for the Lilywhites so far this campaign, and Ashton United manager Steve Cunningham believes he can add a lot to the squad:

“Remi is a great young prospect, and he’s going to give us a real physical presence in that midfield,” Cunningham told the Reporter.

The former Matlock Town man hasn’t made an appearance since signing for the Robins, featuring twice on the bench, but manager Steve Cunningham has hinted his first start may come sooner rather than later:

“He’s got a real opportunity to start on Saturday as it looks like Louis White will be suspended, but we’ll have to wait and see.”

Last weekend also saw the arrival of Bolton Wanderers under 18’s captain, Sean Hogan.

The versatile teenager is capable of playing in both defensive midfield and central defence, and has already made two appearances for the Robins.

He made his first start for the club on Saturday in a 1-0 win at home to Leek Town before keeping his place in the side for Tuesday’s 4-2 loss at home to Guiseley.

Despite Tuesday’s result, Ashton United manager Steve Cunningham was impressed with Hogan’s display.

“It was another accomplished performance for him tonight (Tuesday),” Cunningham told the Reporter.

“I didn’t think he was at fault for any of the goals, and he’s only going to get better,” he added.

The final signing saw talented midfielder Callum Rowe come in on a dual registration contract with National League North side Radcliffe.

The 25-year-old has football league experience, having played eight times for Exeter City during the 2021/22 season.

As well as this, Rowe made a single appearance for Aston Villa in their third-round FA Cup tie against Liverpool back in 2021.

Rowe made his Robins debut on Saturday, coming off the bench in the win over Leek, before making his first start for the club on Tuesday, where he impressed his manager:

“I thought he was excellent tonight (Tuesday), first half he was the best player on the pitch,” Cunningham told the Reporter.

“He’s got great energy, and we’ve brought him in to play as that number six and give us some legs in the middle of the park,” he added.

All three new signings will be looking to start on Saturday as Ashton United travel to the North East to face Hebburn Town.
