Spooner returns to Hyde

Hyde United have announced the re-signing of former midfielder Callum Spooner from Southport, on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old spent just over two seasons with The Tigers, in which he made over 100 appearances for the club, playing under dad Nick, before departing for The Port last summer.

Despite Spooner making 13 appearances for his new club this season, it was clear he had his heart set on a return to Ewen Fields.

“It hasn’t gone how he’s wanted,” said Southport manager Jim Bentley.

“He has a big connection with Hyde United playing for his father and playing every minute of last season.

“He’s a good player, good person and we didn’t want him to leave, but he made his feelings known a couple of weeks ago and now is at the stage where it’s starting to affect him, so we won’t stand in his way."

Hyde United manager, and father of Callum, Nick Spooner, said:

"Callum became available and once we knew that we decided to make a move.

“After the success of his last spell here, it was a no-brainer."

Spooner will be available for selection tonight as Hyde travel to Ilkeston Town for a 7:45pm kick-off.
