Stalybridge sign Altrincham striker on loan

Stalybridge Celtic have signed highly-rated teenage striker Lewis Salmon on loan from newly-promoted National League side Altrincham.

The 18-year-old will join the Bower Fold club until 31 January 2021.

He signed a contract at The J.Davidson Stadium last November that runs until the end of next season, having initially joined Altrincham from Trafford in November 2019.

Salmon remained with the Northern Premier League Division One West side for the rest of last term, scoring 13 goals in 35 appearances.

The frontman has tweeted to say that he "can't wait to get started".

Celtic boss Simon Haworth says he's delighted to have added Salmon's services to his attacking options.

He told the club's website: "I'm thrilled to have signed Lewis, we have been a little disappointing in attack during pre-season so far.

"We really like what we see in Lewis, he is well thought of at Altrincham and also at Trafford. He has got good pace and has a hunger to do well. He can score goals and I am extremely excited to start working with him."

Altrincham say his latest loan move will enable him to "continue his development".

They added in a statement: "He has the chance to carry on progressing after signing for Stalybridge on loan until January 31st, and everyone at Altrincham wishes him well and hopes he benefits from an extended spell in the NPL's top flight."
