Curzon Ashton got one over on former manager Adam Lakeland on Saturday, defeating his King’s Lynn Town side away from home to move up to second in the table.
The Nash thought they’d made the perfect start to the match when Jimmy Spencer had the ball in the net on nine minutes, but he was adjudged to have been in an offside position when he turned in Stefan Mols cross at the back post.
Visitors Curzon then had the ball in the net for a second time just before the break, with Stefan Mols stroking the ball home following an indirect free-kick inside the King’s Lynn penalty area, but this time the goal would stand.
Craig Mahon’s side then doubled their lead just after the hour mark when Isaac Buckley-Ricketts netted his second goal for the club, cutting inside his man and firing a superb curled effort into the top right corner.
The former Manchester City youngster then came close to doubling his tally for the afternoon moments later after he was played in behind the King’s Lynn defence, but veteran goalkeeper Paul Jones spread himself well to deny the winger.
The win sees The Nash sit second in the National League North Table, four points behind league leaders Scunthorpe United.
Attention turns to the FA Cup this weekend when Curzon welcome North West Counties Premier Division side Barnoldswick Town to the Tameside Stadium for a Second Qualifying Round tie.
Ahead of Saturday’s clash, Curzon Ashton manager Craig Mahon spoke of his desire to succeed in the competition:
“We want to create history,” Mahon told Curzon Ashton’s YouTube channel.
“We’ve reached the first round two years in a row, the aim is to do that again, but you’ve got to take every game as it comes.
“We’ve got to respect Barnoldswick, they’ll come with a game plan and a style of play that we might not be used to, so we’ve got to make sure we do our homework.”
Visitors Barnoldswick caused an upset to reach this stage of the competition, defeating Lancaster City of the NPL Premier Division in the previous round.
