Tigers get back to winning ways

Hyde United ended their three-match drawing streak on Tuesday with a 3-1 win over 6th placed Ilkeston Town.

The Tigers had to come from behind after the visitors went ahead early on through Sam Parker’s close-range strike, with Jordan Scanlon drawing the hosts level on the hour mark, firing into the corner from the edge of the box.

Scanlon was involved again moments later as he was brought down inside the penalty area, resulting in a spot kick which was superbly dispatched by Hyde captain Jack Redshaw.

Nick Spooner’s side then added a third, with Scanlon at the heart of it once again, swinging in a cross which was begging to he headed home by full-back Lewis Thompson, who duly obliged.

“I’m really pleased with the result, we needed that”, Hyde boss Nick Spooner told the club’s YouTube channel following the win.

“Our performances have been good lately, but we’ve not been getting the rewards- that first 45 was one of the worst I’ve seen from us, yet we’ve come away with three points.

“I’m just pleased for the fans- they’ve not said a negative word. They could have really got on our backs over recent weeks, but they’ve continued to support us- that win was for them.”

The win sees The Tigers move up to 10th in the NPL Premier Division table, ahead of Saturday’s trip to 14th placed Workington.
