Denton Town Football Club were denied the chance of winning the Cheshire League 1 title at the weekend.
On the final day of the season and for a chance to win the title, Denton faced Parklands needing a victory and for results elsewhere to go their way. However, they were beaten 2-1 at Whittles Park, although it mattered little as Knowsley South beat Cheadle Heath Nomads 2-0 to secure the championship. On a day to forget for Phill Cooper and Daz Green's side, Jordan Bove was sent off for the hosts whilst Jack Nolan was dismissed for the visitors.
Of their 22 games this season, Denton won 14, drew two and lost six, scoring 53 and conceding 23 in the process.
Cooper tweeted the following message after Saturday's defeat:
Gutted to end the season with a defeat! But what these lads give over the last few months is beyond words. Chance of runner up which any other season would have secured promotion! Credit to @knowsleysouth and @chrisjones__87, fully deserved! https://t.co/M98N7u8yKq
