Two local lads set to represent Scotland

Two ex-Tameside Schoolboys will be representing Scotland in UEFA Euro Qualifiers next week.

Oscar Lucas (21) from Mossley ex Mossley Hollins High School, and Kai Lawless from Gorton ex St Thomas More RC College Denton have both been included in the Scotland national Futsal team squad for their UEFA euro 2026 preliminary round of games in Bern, Switzerland next week.

The Scotland squad are in a group of four teams including Malta, Switzerland & Gibraltar.

Both Oscar & Kai play in the FA National Futsal series for Bolton Futsal Club and are both futsal coaches for Tameside based Sala Futsal Club who coach futsal to children aged 6-16.

The two players have three games in four days as Scotland kick off their campaign on Wednesday 10th April against Malta at the Mobiliar Arena in Bern, followed by Switzerland on the 11th and finishing off with their final game against Gibraltar on 13th April.

The top two teams will then progress to the main qualifying round with the likes of teams such as Portugal (current holders), Spain, Italy & England.  The main round starts in September where 40 teams will be placed into groups with the opportunity to qualify for the finals in Latvia & Lithuania in 2026.

When Kai & Oscar are not playing Futsal, they are either playing Football for Ramsbottom FC or Teaching the game of Futsal with Sala Futsal Club who coach sessions in both local schools and through their weekly evening sessions.
