United Take On Wolves

Manchester United are in action this weekend as they host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford on Saturday.

United fans will be eager to see their new signing as Bruno Fernandes could be in line to make his first appearance since his 47-million-pound move from Sporting Lisbon last week.

It is a familiar opponent for the Red Devils as this will be the fourth time they meet each other so far this season. United just edge it so far with one win and two draws between the two evenly matched sides.

The midfielder, 25, has joined on a five-and-a-half-year deal for 55m euros (£47m) but add-ons could increase the overall cost to 80m euros (£67.7m).

The midfielder scored 64 goals in 137 matches in all competitions for Sporting and won the Portuguese Cup in 2018-19.

He was named the Primeira Liga's player of the year in both 2017-18 and 2018-19 and has played 19 times for his country - winning the Uefa Nations League in 2019.

Upon signing he said:

"My love of Manchester United really started when I used to watch Cristiano Ronaldo play and ever since then I have been a big fan of this great club," added Fernandes.

"I have worked hard to get to this moment and I can promise the fans that I will give everything for the badge to help bring us more success and trophies.”

Coming into the game Manchester United gained a 1-0 win over rivals Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup semi-final. But it wasn’t enough as City advanced to the final with a 3-2 aggregate win. Their form has been patchy this season and this is represented in their recent league form. They have lost their last two in the league with defeats to Liverpool and Burnley respectively.

United will still be without Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford through injury and Nemanja Matic will miss the game through suspension after his red card against City.

A win for United would keep them in touch with the Champions League places as they currently trail Chelsea by five places. But a loss could see them drop to 8th ahead of Southampton on goal difference.

Wolves come into the game knowing a win could propel them up to fifth in the table. They have been performing well so far this season as they aim to improve on last season’s seventh-place finish. Their last game was a 2-1 loss at home to Liverpool thanks to a late Roberto Firmino winner. The only injury doubts for Wolves are Vinagre Ruben and Willy Boly. New signing Daniel Podence could make his first appearance for Wolves since his 17-million-pound move from Olympiakos.
