Young Helps Hyde To Victory

Cheshire County 1st XI Premier Division: Toft 214ao   Hyde 215-3

Luke Young produced a stunning all-round performance to help Hyde secure a seven wicket win at Toft on Saturday.

Young overshadowed Lancashire batsman Rob Jones, who had scored a century for Toft earlier in the day, with a sensational innings of 106 not out as Hyde chase down 215 to secure their third win in four matches and maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

After winning the toss the home side decided to bat first and up against his former teammates Andrew Jackson removed opener Ben Staniforth (2) with just 4 runs on the board.

In the next over Young clean bowled Tom Maddocks and Hyde looked in total control.

However, Jones produced an innings of real quality that set him apart from the rest of his colleagues and showed just why he's highly regarded at Lancashire.

Whilst wickets fell at the other end Jones was relatively untroubled hitting 13 fours in his innings.

Infact Toft had slumped to 31-4 with Jackson claiming three of the wickets.

Jones did receive some support from Phil Raikes (28) and Ed Stubbs (45) as the home side finished on 214 all out with Jones making 105 before he was eventually last man out to Young.

Jackson (4-57) and Young (3-49) were the pick of the Hyde bowlers.

With 58 overs to chase down the total, run-rate was never going to be a factor, but it was always about making sure they didn't give Toft any encouragement by losing early wickets.

If that was a concern, then the opening pair of Young and Partridge made the dream start as they scored at almost six runs per-over, before the latter went for 17 with the score on 52.

Charlie Barnard joined Young at the crease and the pair continued to score freely.

Young has been in great form since his return to the club, but his innings on Saturday showed just what an outstanding talent he is.

Despite losing Barnard (32) and Adam Worrall (2) Hyde were always in control with Young in such fine form.

Along with David Fitzsimmons (46no) Young ensured Hyde reached their victory target with almost nine overs remaining as he finished on 106no.

This weekend sees Hyde host Alderley Edge.
