Last Friday marked the conclusion of the 2024 Tameside Toy Appeal, a heartwarming initiative that has brought joy to countless children across the borough. At the heart of this effort is Olivia Kenyon, the inspiring individual who has been driving the appeal since its inception in 2020.
Olivia began her journey in response to the rising costs of Toys and the growing number of families struggling to afford Christmas gifts. Reflecting on her motivation, Olivia shared, "Toys were all getting expensive, and there were a lot of people who couldn't afford to buy presents. So I started fundraising to raise money for the appeal."
Thanks to her dedication and the generosity of the community, funds were raised to purchase Toys from local shops, ensuring that every child in Tameside could experience the magic of Christmas. This year, hundreds of donations poured into the Ashton Family Hub, where the sight of the collected Toys served as a testament to the community's unwavering spirit.
Although the official appeal has now ended, donations continue to arrive. Over the coming days, the team of dedicated volunteers, affectionately called "Elves," will be hard at work sorting, wrapping, and distributing gifts to ensure they reach those in need before Christmas Day.
Action Together, Tameside Radio, and the Tameside Reporter extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to this vital cause, whether through donations, spreading the word, or volunteering their time. Together, the community has made a lasting difference, ensuring that no child in Tameside is left without a reason to smile this Christmas.
The Tameside Toy Appeal is a great example of what can be achieved when people come together.
