Ashton school celebrates making an 'Impact' after scooping news award

Pupils at St Peter's CE Primary School in Ashton are among the latest celebrating the achievement of an award for their kindness and care.

The school has won an ‘Impact’ award from Picture News.

Picture News provides news and teaching resources to help educate children about current affairs and news.

Back in January this year, following an assembly about the devastating bush fires that had swept across Australia, the children decided to act.

Lots went away and wrote moving prayers.

One former pupil, Jade, was even able to adopt a koala which in turn inspired the school’s ethos council to organise a non-uniform day to raise additional funds.

Tyler, a member of the council, said: “We made posters to let people know about why they should help.”

In total, the school community raised £205.

This allowed each class to then adopt their own koala and also allowed for a considerable amount to be donated to the World Wildlife Fund.

Iniah, a 2020 ethos council member, spoke of their feelings after learning they had won the award, stating: “We are so proud of our whole community and it’s great that we have received this award.”
